Home About Chris Will the 1st District have a Constitutional Choice in 2010?

Dear Friend of Liberty,

I currently hold approximately 1400 signatures of the 3500 required for me to make ballot access in my race for the US House of Representatives in New York’s 1st Congressional District. Hundreds more are in the hands of other volunteers, and the Greg Fischer campaign which is also on my petition, and I am excited to tell you that we are nearing our goal. But now is not the time to ease up, quite the contrary, now we must push harder than ever. I must have the petitions organized and in the hands of the Suffolk County Board of Elections by or before August 17th, which really means I need to have them all in my hands by the evening of the 15th at the latest.  Since I am a 3rd Party candidate, an enemy to the establishment, and just as likely to pull votes away from both sides of the false left/right paradigm, we can expect both the Republicans and the Democrats to challenge my signatures no matter how illegitimate their challenges. We don’t just need 3500 signatures, we need 3500 bulletproof signatures, which will require a buffer.

Please download and print out my petition sheet here http://www.voteforcantwell.com/FINAL-Cantwell-Fischer-2010-LP.pdf email it to your friends and family, or deliver printed copies to them. Bring the petitions with you in your daily travels, have your friends, family, and coworkers sign it, have the cashier at the convenience store sign it, have every registered voter residing in the 1st congressional district sign this petition!

All this week, and especially this weekend we will be making a big push for signatures, find details on www.meetup.com/voteforcantwell. If you care for our Constitution, if you care for Liberty, you have a moral obligation to participate. If you cannot make it personally, please consider donating $100 (or $1, or $2,400) to my campaign so that we might hire petitioners, pay for expenses, and provide literature to distribute while petitioning. Donations can be made online at www.voteforcantwell.com, donations can also be made by check payable to “Friends of Chris Cantwell” and mailed to 24 Skylark Lane, Stony Brook, NY 11790.

Recently our petitioning efforts were hindered by the police on a few occasions. Campaign volunteers were kicked out of Cupsogue beach one day, another day they were told to move from the stairs at Smith Point, another day I was personally told to leave by park employees at Smith Point, but I refused to comply, and on August 5th at approximately 8:30pm, park police threatened to use force against me for exercising my constitutionally protected rights. I assured them of course, that the Constitution and other federal and state criminal and civil laws protected my right to free political speech, and to petition, but their county regulation prohibited “Solicitation”, and Officer Wills and Sergeant Sheppard of the Suffolk County Park Police committed the crime of violating my civil rights to uphold that unconstitutional regulation. The next day, Chris Garvey, a true patriot, true friend, and qualified attorney threatened to sue the County on my behalf, and got them to issue orders to the park police not to interfere with our free speech any further. I know a thing or two about fighting for Liberty, because I fight for Liberty wherever I go, I Live Liberty. Elected or not, legal or not, I intend to live as a free and sovereign individual, and I encourage all of you to do the same. On a side note, Chris Garvey ran for District Attorney last year in Suffolk County as a Libertarian, and we would all have been better off (Except the aggressors of course) if Chris had been elected, or even if the board of elections had counted his votes http://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/boe/eleres/09ge/. If he runs again, please support him.

You see, when you take a great idea that Republicans talk about, like repealing Obamacare, and combine it with a great idea Democrats talk about like bringing our troops home, the message is more popular than many would have us believe. Add to this mix the fact that I actually intend to push both policies instead of just using it as rhetoric to get myself elected, and you have a concoction that is dangerous to the political establishment. A true small government, constitutional option, that protects civil liberties, property rights, free speech, privacy, and gun rights, in New York is something the political elites, far left ideologues, and rabid right wing social conservatives don’t want you to know about. They want you to think you must choose between War OR Socialism, Bigotry OR Big Government, Disarmament OR Unconstitutional Searches, Cap & Trade OR Crony Capitalism. But over the last hundred years we have seen, that what we end up with is both, War AND Socialism, Bigotry AND Big Government, Disarmament AND Unconstitutional Searches, Cap & Trade AND Crony Capitalism.

I don’t so much think main stream America votes for Democrats or for Republicans, so much as they vote against them. I think people vote against Democrats because they can’t stand the tax and spend, redistribution of wealth, big government policies they pursue, so they think that makes them Republicans. I think people vote against Republicans because of the imperialist, bigoted, big government policies that they push, so they think that makes them Democrats. But in reality, most of these people just want the government to leave them alone, which I think makes them Libertarians.

Even some of the major Tea Party leaders have abandoned the concept of Liberty, instead pursuing big government policies like the Arizona “Show Me Your Papers Act” (SB1070), eminent domain abuse and suppression of religious Liberty to stop the Mosque at ground zero, denial of jury trials for suspected terrorists, and of course, the continuation of these never-ending, unjust, unnecessary, unconstitutional wars.

We all know that Tim Bishop is bad for the first district, he has voted with Nancy Pelosi 97% of the time, he doesn’t make waves, he is a tool of his party, he is a weak man. But the one time Tim Bishop voted to spend money for the right thing, making sure that 9/11 first responders were taken care of by the government which lied to them about the safety of the air on 9/11, the Republican party voted it down, and I was Representative Bishop’s only opponent who bothered to thank him. We all know Tim Bishop needs to go, the question is, who will replace him?

Will it be Randy Altschuler? The elitist, pro-war, millionaire outsourcer, who spent 10 years with the Green Party? An organization which thinks Obamacare doesn’t go far enough, preferring single payer government run health care? An organization which thinks Cap & Trade doesn’t go far enough, preferring instead a ban on all fossil fuels? Will this be a suitable replacement for Tim Bishop?

Will it be Chris Cox? The pro-war Tea Party backed member of the League of Conservation Voters? An Organization which rated Tim Bishop 100%, denying its endorsement to any member of Congress who didn’t vote for Cap & Trade? Will this be a suitable replacement for Tim Bishop?

Will it be George Demos? A pro-war SEC Lawyer who prides himself on fighting wall street corruption, but promoted that same corruption by giving up a JP Morgan Whistleblower to his bosses at JP Morgan? Who brags about his involvement in the Madolf prosecution, even as Bernie Madolf stole billions under the nose of the SEC for years?

My Dear Friend of Liberty, I am the only Constitutional option for the 1st Congressional District.  I’m far from perfect I know, truly I wish there were a Constitutional option other than myself who looked better than I do. But if we look at the issues, if we look at the candidate platforms, and we compare them to our Constitution, I am the only one who will bring us in the right direction. The direction George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Patrick Henry, and the other brave men who founded our great nation intended. Capitalism hasn’t failed, Corporatism has. Peace hasn’t failed, imperialism has. Liberty hasn’t failed, Statism has.

I’m fighting for Liberty. These men fight against me. On which side will you stand?

In Liberty,
Chris Cantwell
Libertarian Candidate for the US House of Representatives in New York’s 1st District
