What Party?
I will seek Republican nomination, because I understand the physics of our current political system. I register to vote as Republican, and for that reason I need not seek approval from party leadership, as I can petition to trigger a primary which I may participate in. If you are sick of Republicans, you can still vote for me. If you are sick of Democrats, even better.
But I am an active member of the Libertarian Party, in fact I am the director of recruiting and organizing for the chapter here in Suffolk County. With a few exceptions, my principles and values are those of the Libertarian Party.
I will also approach the leadership of the Conservative Party, the Independence Party, the Democratic Party, I may even visit the Working Families Party (even if only for a laugh). It seems none of these people have had any trouble cross endorsing candidates before, and perhaps they will see the wisdom in cross endorsing me, perhaps not.
In any case, I hold true to something I have been saying for some time now. The two party system is broken, and I believe the Libertarian Party is the third party America needs to fill the gap, fiscally conservative, socially liberal. Simply put, we don't seek to control any portion of your lives, only to protect your rights, which is the only purpose of a just government.
The fake left vs. right paradigm is destroying this country. The idea that you can choose only between people who will control your money, or people who will wage war and control your behavior, is ridiculous, and it leads invariably to a situation where we end up with both. One regime never seems to repeal the laws, taxes, and other bad acts of the previous regime, everybody wants a different bad thing, and eventually they all get their way under this system.
After the Bush administration you had this drastic shift to the left, because everyone was so fed up with the wars, and the despotic, anti-constitutional, behavior that ignored the economy, health care, and other important issues. Now we have the Democratic Party racing towards communism and the collapse of the dollar. But we're still at war, and at that, expanding the war from Afghanistan, undeclared, into Pakistan. We still have the Patriot act, and the rhetoric against Iran is being ratcheted up more and more each day.
America cannot take this much longer, something drastic has to change for the better, or the tough times we are in now will seem petty compared to those of the near future.
