Bring Our Troops Home Now
I think that after the events of 9/11, myself and many others looked to the government for a response, and sure enough we got it. That response was to invade Afghanistan. I believe there is little to no point today in debating whether or not this was a good idea to go in or not. What I do know is that coming home now, is a good idea. Our best and bravest men and women are putting their lives at risk to bring order to a place which has never had any real order to speak of, a place that proved too difficult for the Soviets to overcome, and a place where our presence is unwelcomed.
Shortly thereafter, we also sent forces to Iraq, even though George Bush himself said Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. We were told this was about weapons of mass destruction. I fully recognize that Saddam Hussein intentionally made the world believe he had weapons of mass destruction, and perhaps his efforts were really enough to fool our inteillgence services and those of other nations. The fact still remains though, that those weapons did not exist. The fact is that Saddam Hussein is now dead, and no longer a threat to his people, or his neighbors, and most definitely not a threat to us.
Fighting so called insurgencies is futile. I call on every man and woman in America, to ask themselves when they would stop fighting if a foreign military invaded this country. I know if the roles were reversed, I would be the first one making improvised explosive devices, and attacking our invaders, and I would not stop until that foreign military completely withdrew its forces, or, until I was dead. There is plenty of legitimate debate as to whether or not we should have engaged in these wars to begin with, but I do not believe there is any legitimacy in our continuing these efforts any further.
More than 5,000 American Patriots have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, nearly $5,000 is spent each second on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, more US Forces in foreign lands means LESS US Forces protecting the homeland, over 700 Military Bases in over 130 Countries are a drain on the US Economy and Security, Afghans and Iraqis are responsible for their own Liberty, Peace, and Security.
I want our troops home, without undue delay. Not only from Iraq and Afghanistan, but from all unnecessary foreign military bases. It is not the role of the United States to spread our influence militarily, or to build nations, or to spread democracy by way of bloodshed. In those places where the people thirst for Liberty, those people will take Liberty, as we did over 230 years ago, by a revolt of the people. When the people of a nation under a tyrranical government take arms against it, I believe the Unites States should speak in support of them, and perhaps even sell them weapons. But each individual in our military is too valuable for even one to be lost on anything other than protecting the United States against imminent danger.
I am very concerned about the ratcheting up of rhetoric against Iran, and the saber rattling we have seen against North Korea in recent past. Additionally we are seeing the war in Afghanistan become a war against Pakistan. I don't think for one moment that any of these governments are friends of the United States, but I also don't believe they pose any real threat to us here at home. At least not nearly as much of a threat as military action against them would be. The dollar is falling due to inflationary government spending, our image in the world is suffering due to our perceived imperial goals.
The greatest threats to our country are not to be found in the sands of some far off land, but rather right here at home. Our Constitution has been under assault since its ratification, and all Americans need to concentrate their efforts on the defense of our Constitution.
